News > Casting > 'Die Hard' writer to film movie in Shelby, casting call scheduled Saturday (updated at 5:09 p.m.)

SHELBY - Ever wanted to see yourself on the big screen? Think you could make it in Hollywood if only you could get your foot in the door? Now's your chance.
"Blood Done Sign My Name," a 2004 novel by Duke University professor Timothy B. Tyson, is being turned into a movie and will start filming in May in Shelby, Charlotte and Monroe.
A casting call for extras is scheduled Saturday at Cleveland Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Freedom News Service reported last week that much of the film might be shot near Shelby.
"We'd love to see a couple hundred people out here," Cleveland Mall Operations and Senior Marketing Manager Jennifer Dedmond said Thursday.
The film's extras casting director, Marty Siu, said the film needs a diverse group of people - from church congregations to people interested in courtroom scenes as jury members, lawyers and press people, to townspeople, restaurantgoers and grocery store patrons.
"We're going to need everybody," she said. "We just have to make sure we have a nice variety of people."
Hundreds of extras are needed and will be paid minimum wage. They will be expected to be on the set 12 to 14 hours a day. Filming will take place during weekdays.
The film also needs late 1950s or 1960s model cars in running condition to use in scenes. If you have one, go to the casting call with a non-returnable photo of your vehicle. Vintage cars from 1971 on are not eligible to be in the film.
Extras with cars from that time period will be bumped up on the list, said Siu.
